What the reserve does
Digital Media Reserve is a web-based service built by DMI around the current edition of Adobe Content Server — version 6.5, now continued as ByteBooks Content Server. It holds your files, issues the licences, and hands your retail channel a download link it can trust.
The encryption is bound to the reader's authorised identity rather than to the device alone, which is why a book bought on a phone appears on the laptop and the e-ink reader without anyone re-buying anything.

Capabilities
What you can do with a protected title
- Sell it outright
- A perpetual licence to the buyer, readable on every device they authorise.
- Lend it for a fixed term
- Make the book available for a set number of days; permissions expire and the content returns itself, with no action from the borrower.
- Licence it to an institution
- Concurrent-user or seat-based access for a school, university or corporate library.
- Raise protection on selected titles
- Resource-level DRM lets you enforce stronger rights on the titles that need it, rather than on the whole list. Requires RMSDK 10.0 or above in the reading application.
- Choose the rendering engine
- Serve an EPUB through the EPUB 2 or the EPUB 3 renderer, so older reading systems keep working while new ones get reflowable, accessible layout.
- Re-issue without re-selling
- A lost file or a new device is a regenerate call, not a refund conversation.

Provisions above reflect our standard eBooks distribution agreement. Your own contract governs where the two differ.
Content policy
Publishers using the reserve are the content providers, and remain responsible for complying with the local, national and international law that governs their titles. We do not screen catalogues, but a small set of material is not accepted — and submitting it in the file, the cover image or the metadata ends the account.

- Pornography; libellous material; anything the publisher does not hold the copyright or the right to distribute.
- Public domain
- Accepted, but we may ask you to validate that a given title genuinely qualifies.
- Advertising
- Material inside the eBook whose main purpose is selling something other than the eBook itself.
- Metadata
- Title data is covered by the same policy as the file it describes.
